Call on the European Commission to ban the plucking of live geese in the EU
Approximately one million geese are still plucked every year in Europe. These animals suffer immensely while their feathers and down are being ripped out. Severe wounds and injuries are common within this practice and the animals are handled roughly. Their bones will often break which can cause fatalities; because of the increased demand for expensive down animals die.
The down industry often hides behind terms like "harvesting" or "moult plucking". These "phases" will often be used for such atrocities; however regardless of the name the meaning remains the same that it's a cruel practice which is made legal.
This cruelty has to stop. In the next few months the EU is planning to decide on the fate of the geese. Help us to call on the European Commission to completely ban the plucking of live animals!
FOUR PAWS are collecting all signatures and will hand them to the EU Commissioner.
Subject: Ban live feather plucking in the EU
I hereby call on the European Commission to ban the plucking of live geese without any exception. Any removal of feathers or down from a living animal has to be prohibited. The animals suffer during the plucking that is often referred to as "harvesting" or "moult plucking".
This brutal and cruel practice which is still practiced on farms in Hungary and Poland has to be stopped immediately. As long as this animal suffering continues and is allowed, I will not purchase any products containing goose down.
